Black Swan. Darren Aronofsky has shown us a peek into the real world of Ballet dancers. Featuring Natalie Portman in the lead role along with Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel, the story is all about a ballet dancer who is on her way to self-destruction in the process of getting perfect.
Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) runs a dance company. When one of Thomas’s dancers needs retirement, Nina Sayers (Natalie) becomes the replacement for the role of Swan queen in Thomas’s new show “Swan Lake“.
A White Swan needs freedom. And the key is Love. A prince comes to rescue her. She falls in love. Then the lustful twin, Black Swan seduces the prince. The white swan attains freedom through death. Swan Lake’s plot is as simple and as complicated as that.
Thomas knew that Nina would be the best choice for the swan queen. Being a white swan needs grace and perfection which she has a lot in her. But the black version needs to be strong, seductive, ferocious which Nina thinks she is not. She thinks that the perfection is everything. But “Perfection is not only in getting the control but also in letting it go“. Thomas tries all means to see that dark side of her. The result is Black Swan.
